Wal-Mart Goes Local

Another example of a big guy trying to emulate the little guys. Do you think it will be successful?

Wal-Mart is seeing green with its burgeoning Heritage Agriculture program. The objective: Entice farms within one day’s drive of its warehouses to grow produce specifically for them.
Wal-Mart still plans to profit; although purchasing produce from smaller farms costs slightly more, the company cuts costs in transport and eliminates middlemen. This reduces their carbon footprint and may eventually allow them to compete with — wait for it — Whole Foods.

About angelgibson

I am a former big ad agency brand planner, running footloose and fancy-free through the streets of New York City. I read all those huge research reports that explain how and why consumers love or are indifferent to particular brands, the types of messaging that make them break out in night sweats, and the ONE thing you are not doing that your customers really wish you would. I read a lot of other stuff too. I write custom reports, design proprietary research, basically help my smart and fabulous clients become even more so.
